Bugs & Copyright

Today while doing outdoor chores, I encountered a grasshopper with white-ish and black stripes on it's thighs, and bright red calves. Given my area & how common they are, I believe it to be Melanoplus Femurrubrum, or red-legged grasshopper. I didn't have my phone with me, so I didn't get a photo, but I looked around online.

Looking at BugGuide.net, I remember the thighs of my specimen was like this photo, while the lower legs were a bright red like this fella here.
I considered putting the linked images on this page, but I don't want to hotlink or upload it myself due to each contributor on BugGuide having their own copyright. Which is honestly fair for them, no issues there. I just don't have the energy to deal with all that today. :/

There's something to talk about; Copyright. I remember when I first heard about copyright, I was all for it. I make my own art, after all, and I certainly don't want anyone re-posting it without my consent, and definitely not profiting off my artwork. I still feel this way when it comes to small artists. But when it comes to big companies, it becomes an absolite drag for everyone! Everyone hears about copyright strikes for songs in youtube videos, often automated, effecting the income of people just using the songs in the background.

Even some artists, like Toby Fox for example, don't wanna deal with that rigamarole. I recall in this Alpharad video that Alpharad was using Date Start for his sponsored segments, but a lot of sponsors had trouble with that, so he asked the Undertale Man himself for a license for the song. Toby was basically like "Sorry can't give you the license, but what I used to make the song is public domain so you can just remake it & say it was yours" So he did & that was the end of it.

I totally support fanworks as well, all sorts. Kept free so everyone can enjoy it. Hell, I make fan art myself! Just look at my art page!

It's also a bunch of legal jargon I personally don't feel I should get into unless I like... really need it, y'know? I have lots of other shit to worry about, personal or otherwise.

This blog post is far less cohesive than my last. But that's what Blaugust is about, I guess? Just typing about whatever's on your mind & sharing it with the world.
