Internet History

I'm currently listening to Strange Aeons read fake tumblr stories. I like listening to people talk about silly shitposts & dive into weird subcultures online. Internet history has become a favored subject of mine, as well. With not only Strange talking about it, but also series like LoveWeb.

Given I grew up when the internet was evolving, it's fun looking back on this stuff. Not for nostalgia, but to put things into perspective. Do I miss the days where Nyan Cat, Do You Like Waffles, & Can I Haz Cheezburger was all the rage? Kinda, but I also recognize shit wasn't all rainbow shitting kittens. The amount of times I looked back on content creators I liked back in the day & they were slinging the R-slur left & right? Too many.

But that doesn't lessen the fun of sifting through that stuff, y'know? Hell, I'm writing this page on a web hosting site that is full of old web enjoyers. Neocities is based on Geocities, after all! We're all taking what we love about the internet & weaving it into our own pages.

I think that's beautiful.

Recently, I've been trying to limit my youtube usage. Using Bandcamp & Soundcloud for most if not all of my music. I only pop into youtube for the videos I can't view anywhere else, and only on my computer with ad-blocker. The ads are damn near painful otherwise.

Not only that, but there's been some frustrating practices with age verification recently that I honestly don't have the energy to talk about right now. But there's some tumblr posts about it. If this was some other day, I'd be more than happy to rant about this bullshit. But today I'm too exhausted.

Perhaps I'll talk about it in a more cohesive blog post at a later date. For now, I'm a bit spent.
