Today's Vampire the Masquerade session (hyped about in my previous post) was a blast. Even though the bulk of us rolled like shit. Half our team got walled by a random goon. So much so that Aileen, our Gangrel, felt it was a waste of talent to let him die & ended up making him a ghoul once we finally beat him. Y'know, after she was shot to hell and nearly staked to death. Now we have an unnamed grunt as a pet lol. Standard TTRPG experience.
We're encouraged to write an in-character diary for every session, recieving extra experience in return. I'm usually pretty quick with writing mine while the session is still fresh in my mind, but today I'm a bit slower. I guess I was saving my writing energy for the blog? But I have 2 weeks to write it so I'm not pressed.
In-character diaries exist for both my VtM campaign, but also my D&D Turn of the Fortunes Wheel campaign. All from the POV of the character, so it's often not the complete story, but I try and make my characters as observant as I can. Taking notes the entire session, then converting it into a cohesive diary. It's genuinely fun, and a great writing exersise! If anybody (outside of the micro-fandom my TTRPG groups have formed) wants to read them, they're linked below. The Fortunes Wheel log is genuinely the highest word count of anything I've written... ever, I think? Definitely the most on toyhouse. Especially considering I mostly draw, & not write.
Raff's Journal, Vampire the Masquerade
Ward's Log, Turn of the Fortunes Wheel
This reminds me, I haven't infodumped about TotFW yet! Okay, spoilers for the main prospect of the campaign I guess,
but the gist is that you have three versions of your character that you cycle through each death. They share memories, and are mostly the same character, but like alternate universe versions. So you can have like the neutral guy, what if everything went right for your guy, what if everything went wrong, or even what if they were a different race altogether? Shit like that. They all have to have something in common though. For mine, it's one functional eye & an affinity for music. A bit of an oversimplification, but that's entry-level info.
So my guy, called Ward, uses three different names, as he's not sure which is his true one. The other party members have concrete names, but I'm silly with mine I guess. To be honest, I couldn't come up with anything better than the one we had for the third incarnation. I want to make a page about him on here someday. Have a button that takes you to different versions of the page based on each iteration of Ward. It cycles through like the deaths. That'd be neat to pull off. Maybe make the button something plot relevant. But I digress. Anyway, the incarnations.
The first incarnation, Dubward, is a bladesinger wizard warforged. He has electronic dance music themes & is associated with the color blue. He's loyal to a fault, and can be a bit of a dork. This guy is soundbyte central. If there's a noise he can make that'll make me smile, I'll have him make it. He wakes up & the Windows XP startup sound plays. When he activates his bladesong, the song can vary by situation. But a lot of the time it's We Like to Party by the Vengaboys. He's not all comic releif, but there's a lot of physical comedy with him as well.
Next is Gobward (creative name I know (sarcasm)) the goblin bard. Playing on him being flesh & blood, he wears his heart on his sleeve & is the most frail of the iterations. He practivally oozes kindness & has a smile like sunshine. He has a lazy eye that can't see too well, so he covers it with his hair. The banjo is his instrument & his music theme is more folk/country/midwest emo. Associated with warm reds & oranges. He just wants to help his friends the best he can.
I'm lowkey hoping I can have him snap one day. It's always the most satisfying when it's the nice one. >:3c
Lastly, the one with the best name, Shredward. Another warforged, but way larger in stature. He's a barbarian, path of the storm herald. His theme is metal/punk/screamo, with a green color theme. He's less chatty than the other two, often nearly nonverbal. But when writing, whether it be songs or his log, he's articulate as the rest of them. His weapon is a guitar themed axe, or is it an axe themed guitar? Both. In personality he can seem gruff, but he's a gentle giant. Besides, he seems absolutely sunny next to his party member Avak. A goliath who's as rigid as the day is long. And he actually has flesh!
Here's what the Wards look like. Well, Dubward usually has clothes, but this is a reference image. I usually try not to hotlink, but here he is anyway I guess. I may change the image later to be better for the site. But right now I just wanted to gush about my boy. I'm really proud of his music genre & RGB theme. Maybe one day I'll snatch the text from here and put it on his future web page.
